What do I mean by “Way to be you!” It means to be your personal best.  The story of GemFriendz is centered on two sisters who grew upwith a turbulent background. I, Angela, am the younger sister and the creator of Gemfriendz. Jennifer is the artist. Both of us have shared many experiences that may have stretched us to our limits. Each hurdle in life has challenged our self-concept. We found out being a female is tough these days. It came to me that as community members we need to celebrate our children’s strengths and build upon them.  We need to put a stop to the unrealistic expectations that are placed on our girls. We actually limit our girls when we spend too much time focusing on fixing areas of weakness.

     As sisters we are determine to spread the word about the power behind celebrating strengths.  “Way to be you!” is not about pushing girls to over achieve. It is about teaching girls that “you” is enough in this world. Let’s not get side tracked. What is it about “you” that makes you unique and special?  What is it about “you” that you wish others to know about “you?”
